PAN–Aadhaar Linking: New Deadline Announced (31 Dec 2025)
Posted: Mon Nov 10, 2025 3:40 pm
CBDT has issued a fresh update regarding the PAN–Aadhaar linking process, granting an extension only to a particular category of PAN holders. This relaxation applies to individuals who obtained their PAN card using an Aadhaar Enrolment ID (and not their final Aadhaar number) before 1 October 2024. These users must complete the final linking with their Aadhaar number by 31 December 2025.
Who Is Required to Complete the Linking?
• Anyone whose PAN was generated using an Aadhaar Enrolment ID
• Mandatory linking with the actual Aadhaar number before the new deadline
• *No extension is provided for regular PAN holders*
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
If the linking is not completed by 31 December 2025, the PAN will become inoperative from 1 January 2026, which results in:
• Inability to file Income Tax Returns
• No eligibility for tax refunds
• Higher TDS/TCS deductions on transactions
• Restrictions on banking, property, and mutual fund activities
• Non-compliant status in Income Tax records
An inoperative PAN can be restored anytime by completing the Aadhaar linking process and paying the applicable fee (₹1000).
Members are encouraged to verify their PAN status and finish the linking well before the deadline. If you need help or have questions, feel free to start a discussion in the comments.
