How to apply for Indian Passport and the process of renewal and making changes in Passport in India

1. How to Apply for a New Indian Passport (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Visit the Official Passport Website
Go to the official Passport Seva Portal (passportindia.gov.in).
Create a new user account using your email ID and set a password.
Step 2: Login and Select Passport Application
After logging in:
(a) Click “Apply for Fresh Passport”
(b) Choose passport type:
(i) Normal / Tatkaal
(ii) 36 pages / 60 pages
Step 3: Fill the Application Form
(a) Fill all details carefully:
(b) Personal Information
(c) Family Details
(d) Present & Permanent Address
(e) Employment Details
(f) Previous passport details (if any)
Submit the form and verify all entries.
Step 4: Pay the Passport Fee
Choose online payment:

Step 6: Visit Passport Seva Kendra
Carry original documents + photocopies:

(d) 10th certificate (if needed for DOB)
(e) Any other applicable documents
At the PSK, your photo, fingerprints, and signature will be taken.
Step 7: Police Verification
After your PSK appointment, a police officer will visit your address to verify:

Step 8: Passport Printing and Delivery
Once verification is complete, your passport will be printed and dispatched by India Post.

2. Passport Renewal (Re-issue) Process in India
When passport expires or is about to expire (less than 1 year), apply for Re-issue.
